February 21 @ 8:00 pm - 11:00 pm

The Chiaroscuro Reading Series is a monthly reading series featuring writers of SF, fantasy and horror. Plus music! The Toronto Branch is hosted by Sandra Kasturi.

February authors are:

KRISTYN DUNNION‘s dystopic Tarry This Night made CBC’s top 20 fall fiction list and Bitch’s November must reads. The Dirt Chronicles (also with Arsenal Pulp Press) was a 2012 Lambda Literary Award finalist and ALA Over the Rainbow selection. A Machigonne fiction prizewinner and Pushcart Prize nominee, Dunnion’s provocative work incites critical questions about identity, justice, and power.

JAMES ALAN GARDNER has twice won the Aurora Award and the Asimov’s Readers’ Choice Award, as well as the Theodore Sturgeon Memorial Award for short fiction. He’s a math guy, a geology guy, a rabbit guy, a kung fu guy, and a gamer guy. He’s also a freelance editor-for-hire. In his current superhero series, he intends to destroy all the prominent landmarks of Kitchener-Waterloo.

STEPHEN MICHELL is a freelance writer in Toronto. His first novel, Only the Devil is Here, came out from ChiZine Publications in 2017. Publishers Weekly called it “a suspenseful horror-action hybrid with . . . a genuinely insightful examination of the essence of good and evil.” You can find out more about Stephen over at the bar.

GARRY THOMAS MORSE is a two-time nominee for the Governor General’s Award for his poetry collections, Discovery Passages and Prairie Harbour, and a two-time nominee for the ReLit Award for his speculative fiction novels, Minor Episodes / Major Ruckus and Rogue Cells / Carbon Harbour. Though a resident of Winnipeg, Morse is currently living at Massey College and serving as the Jack McClelland Writer-in-Residence at the University of Toronto. His new book of poetry is Safety Sand.

Plus original songs by KARI MAAREN!

The ChiSeries is sponsored in part by the Toronto Arts Council, ChiZine Publications and Bakka Phoenix Books, as well as by donations from attendees.

The Round Venue is not currently accessible but the management is working on getting a Stair Chair installed.
